PathwAI's Google Tag Manager integration loads your GTM container on every page of every flow in a workspace and pushes built-in events to window.dataLayer as the respondent moves through the flow. Tags in your container can fire on step views, step completions, flow completions, sign-ups, purchases and consent changes. This feed is for your own tags. PathwAI's server-side Data Platform events are sent separately.
What data moves
- PathwAI loads the GTM container script on flow pages.
- PathwAI to the dataLayer: pathwai_step_view, pathwai_step_complete, pathwai_step_back, pathwai_step_carried, pathwai_flow_complete, pathwai_signup, pathwai_purchase and pathwai_consent.
- Each event carries flow, version, submission and step IDs. Purchases add value, currency and order_id. Some events include contact fields and answers.
Where it is configured
Integrations → Google Tag Manager holds the container ID (GTM-XXXX). A step can also push its own named dataLayer event, defined in a form under that step's Events.

Custom events per step
Add a dataLayer event to a step's Events, name it and set its fields, and trigger a tag on it.
How to set it up
- In PathwAI, open Integrations → Google Tag Manager → Configure and enter the container ID.
- In GTM, create Custom Event triggers for the pathwai_* events you need.
- Attach tags to those triggers and choose which dataLayer fields they read.
- Publish the container and check the events in GTM's preview mode on a live flow.
Good to know
- Some events include user_email, user_phone or answers. Review what each tag forwards before you publish it, and keep health answers out of third-party tags.
- The container is set per workspace, so it loads on every flow. Use flow_id in triggers to scope a tag to one flow.

Which events does PathwAI push to the dataLayer?
pathwai_step_view, pathwai_step_complete, pathwai_step_back, pathwai_step_carried, pathwai_flow_complete, pathwai_signup, pathwai_purchase and pathwai_consent, plus any custom dataLayer events you add to a step.
Are these the same events the Data Platform receives?
No. The dataLayer feed is for tags in your own container. The Data Platform's flow events are derived and sent by PathwAI's server.
Can a tag fire on one flow only?
Yes. Every event carries flow_id, so a trigger can check it.
