PathwAI's OpenAI integration lets AI Scan steps analyze respondents' photos with OpenAI models. GPT-4o, GPT-4.1 and GPT-4o mini are offered in the step's model picker. Scans run only on your workspace's own OpenAI API key, which PathwAI checks against OpenAI when you save it, and the model returns the output fields you define, which are saved on the submission.
What data moves
- Respondent to PathwAI: guided photos, taken with the camera or uploaded, stored in your workspace's assets.
- PathwAI to OpenAI: the photos, the step's prompt and the output fields from the published flow.
- OpenAI to PathwAI: the outputs, saved with the photo links, the model and the analysis time.

The AI Scan step's Model setting picks a GPT model. Connect saves the workspace's OpenAI key to Integrations, where every AI Scan step that uses OpenAI reads it.

Run the Wrinkles or Hairline use case with a GPT model in place of the default Gemini model.

How to set it up
- Create an API key in the OpenAI platform dashboard.
- Add an AI Scan step and choose a use case.
- Pick a GPT model and click Connect to paste the key.
- Review the outputs and disclaimer, then test before publishing.
Good to know
- The built-in AI Scan prompts tell the model to describe what is visible and never to diagnose, name a disease or recommend a treatment. The result is a screening description for a provider to review, and the step shows a disclaimer you can edit.
- Photos can be taken automatically when the shot is clear, or with a tap, and uploads can be allowed when the camera is blocked.
