PathwAI's GoHighLevel integration creates or updates a GoHighLevel contact when a flow step runs. It calls GoHighLevel's upsert contact endpoint, matched by email, with the name, phone, address, source, tags and custom fields you map from earlier answers. If you add a list ID, the contact is also added to that list. The action is placed on a step's Entry or Exit event.
What data moves
- PathwAI to GoHighLevel: email (required), first and last name, phone, address, source, comma-separated tags and any custom fields, filled with variables from earlier answers.
- With a list ID set, a second request adds the contact to that list.
- Nothing is read back from GoHighLevel, and the respondent does not wait for the call.
Where it is configured
Integrations → GoHighLevel holds the Location API key and the Location (sub-account) ID. The Upsert Contact action is added under a step's Events, on Entry or Exit, in the flow editor.
Use cases
Tag leads by outcome
Put the action on each outcome's Ending step with a different tag, such as qualified or not-a-fit, so automations in GoHighLevel can start from the tag.
Keep leads who drop off
Put the action on the Exit of the contact details step. The lead reaches GoHighLevel even if the person leaves before the end.
Intake answers for the sales team
Map answers such as treatment interest or state into GoHighLevel custom fields.
How to set it up
- In GoHighLevel, open the sub-account and copy its Location API key from Settings → Integrations → API Keys, plus the Location ID from the URL.
- In PathwAI, open Integrations → GoHighLevel → Configure, paste both, switch Enable on and save.
- In the flow, select the step, open Events and add GoHighLevel → Upsert Contact under Entry or Exit.
- Map Email and any other fields with the variable button, save, then run the published flow once and check the contact.
Good to know
- Email is the only required field. Empty optional fields are left out of the request.
- The action creates or updates contacts and list membership. It does not create opportunities or move pipeline stages.
- A failed call does not stop the respondent from finishing the flow.
GoHighLevel integration FAQ
Which GoHighLevel credentials does PathwAI need?
A Location (sub-account) API key and the Location ID. Agency accounts connect through the sub-account's key.
Will a returning person create a duplicate contact?
No. GoHighLevel's upsert matches on email, so an existing contact with that email is updated.
When is the contact created?
When the step the action sits on runs: on Entry when the step appears, or on Exit when the person answers and moves on.
